I'm listening to early fireworks going off all around and thought of your puppies around this time of year.

Sigh! With the Fourth on Wednesday this year I think that I'm going to have *two* weekends bracketing one holiday of torture! Last night we spent the evening (until about 11 pm) holed up in our small guest room. That's where we have the dog crate and the extra television. I've found that if I crate Sandy and turn on the TV, she doesn't completely lose it. She's still nervous and I have to spend the time in there with her but it's better than having her running around the house pooping blood all over like she did one year or clawing me to shreds trying to climb under me to escape the noise. Ziggy doesn't like the noise either but he just stays *real* close and pants.

I think that if I ever build another house, I'll build in a "quiet room." One with lots of sound proofing where you can't hear any noise from outside. Though I love my adopted state, I'll never understand the southern fixation on things that go boom! We didn't have that in Ohio when I was growing up. They're technically illegal here, as well, but I know what kind of strange looks and head shaking I'd get if I ever called and reported the neighbors to the local police for disturbing my peace.

Poor Sandy. The noise is really difficult for her.

It is amazing what people do and how they get these things when they're illegal in your town. We get the M-80's, roman candles and all sorts of noise makers going on all over the neighborhood. And although Juno doesn't like it, it's more of a "what the heck are you doing to my neighborhood?" kind of energy rather than being scared energy, so I am lucky. Kai, my cat, just curls into a ball under the bed and goes to sleep :D

Last night was another night of constant booms. :( To add to that, though, during the afternoon, yesterday, we had a really bad electrical storm! Mega-lightning! I ended up drugging both dogs. They're so pitiful when they're drugged. They sleep a lot but they do wake off and on. When they wake, they are very groggy. Sandy has trouble walking on the slick wood floors when she's like that and she slips and slides and staggers around. I hate doing that to them but it's better than letting them be terrified. I'm hoping that tonight will be a little reprieve before tomorrow and Wednesday. Surely these folks will run out of exploding things before too long (she says with pleading in her voice...)

Good luck! They've been going off in my neighborhood for the past several days. I don't anticipate any relief until after next weekend. I don't know why people get enjoyment from the loud noises these things make!
